This is an exciting time to be joining us at Reading University Students’ Union (RUSU), providing an excellent opportunity to focus and contribute to our 2019-2022 strategic plan. We are seeking a remarkable person with an understanding of Students’ Unions and the Higher Education sector to add notable value to RUSU’s Trustee Board and work alongside elected student trustees.
As an External Trustee of an innovative and dynamic student-led charity, the selected candidate will play a critical role in ensuring we remain true to our values and charitable status; acting with integrity, providing inclusive services and facilities, and are accountable to our diverse student membership.
We are looking for an attentive and diplomatic individual to work closely with us to help the organisation continue to promote the welfare of students, deliver social, cultural and sporting recreational activities for our members, whilst remaining as the recognised representative channel between students and the University of Reading.
RUSU is governed by a Board of Trustees, that meet six times per year and comprises of five Full-Time Officer trustees, two elected Student Trustees and two appointed Student Trustees, as well as four External Trustees. The successful applicant will work collaboratively to help guide the development of the organisation with an enthusiasm for the vision of the Students’ Union as a democratic organisation, committed to enhancing the student experience and maintaining the close community that exists at Reading.
Moving into the first year of our new strategy, the main duties of an External Trustee will develop to include (but are not limited to) setting or approving policies, plans and budgets to achieve our objectives and to comply with our governing document; ensuring the solvency, financial strength and reputational performance of the charity, both now and into the future.
We would particularly welcome applications from people with professional experience or strong knowledge in strategic planning, corporate social responsibility, charity management, legal or business development skills. In return, you will play a key role in shaping how we operate and in the futures of over 19,000 students here at Reading.
This is an unpaid position but reasonable expenses are paid. The Board meets six times per year. Plus, invites to key events in our calendar.
