HISA (Highlands and Islands Students’ Association) - External Trustee

HISA is the UK’s youngest and fastest growing Students’ Association.  A student-led organisation representing students studying at the University of the Highlands and Islands, the UK’s leading integrated university encompassing both further and higher education, and its Partners.  Nowhere else in the UK does such an integrated university exist at this level or scale.

HISA is unique in its structures, its geography and opportunities; representing all students enrolled on courses at each of the thirteen academic partners that make up the UHI partnership based in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland and beyond. From Shetland and Stornoway to Inverness and Perth HISA is an organisation for students, led by students. Just three years old it is an expanding organisation, currently with four full time Student Officers, nineteen part time Officers and ten full time members of staff.

HISA represents up to 40,000 students across the region, made up of approximately 8,000 studying for HE qualifications and over 30,000 for FE. HISA is a registered charity and company which is governed by the Board of Trustees, made up of the three full time Officers three appointed students from within the partnership and up to four external trustees.

The Association is looking for someone who has an interest in the long term strategy and work of HISA and monitoring its risks.   HISA is particularly interested in those with experience or knowledge in charitably/company governance and financial monitoring.

As a strongly values-led organisation we are looking for an External Trustee who will be committed to delivering equality of opportunity and reducing barriers to participation, and have a genuine interest in the empowerment of students.
